Hello! We hope you're having a gorgeous and inspired weekend! So in our last missive we shared a witchy playlist created by art director Lisa Gill and asked you to make your own suggestions. We'll be gathering those and assembling a larger one for your perusal, so don't forget to let us know what you think should be on it (and just reply to this missive to tell us)! This made us remember another playlist we shared in our summer 2017 Midsummer Faerie Court issue (which we're almost sold out of forever, in case you want to nab a copy!): This is from the stunning cover shoot by Ether and Smith, with fashions from Firefly Path, wings from Fancy Fairy Wings & Things, and luminous models Vanessa Walton, Jessica Dru Johnson, Jaden LeBel, Chloe Doan, Dre Ronayne & Raiya Corsiglia! The photos were inspired by Titania's fairy court in A Midsummer Night's Dream and to be honest many many things we do are. Sigh. In other news, we have been working on our autumn Vintage Witch issue and have a wondrous photo shoot (and story) to share from Sabrina L. Speaking of our many splendid back issues, as we do, reader Naomi Farr just shared this capture of the very first issue of her subscription, from spring 2014, which was as it happens also the first regular issue edited by editor in chief Carolyn Turgeon after she put together the special Mermaids issue in winter 2013... (Since both issues are sold out, we've linked to the digital downloads.) Look how sweet and innocent! And then here is Naomi's entire collection from then until now! It's like looking at our children. Sigh. In other news... we have replenished our supplies of historical apothecary items in our luxurious Bath & Beauty shop.... including this very handy Mrs. Bennet's Anxiety Balm: And this Martha Ballard's Migraine Balm, which was adapted from the headache tea recipe found in her diary: And this Woodlands Enchanted Body Powder, which has this sumptuous description that my or may not have brought a tear to our eyeballs: Imagine yourself meandering through an enchanted ancient forest. You step under the canopy, and your senses come alive, smelling the damp soil, and earthy foliage mixed with cedarwood, oakmoss, cypress, fir balsam, pine needles. You breathe deep and take in hints of dark musk, vetiver, amber, rose petals, lilacs, lilies, and violets. This body powder has a classic scent that, at first glance, may remind some of a robust vintage aftershave, but don't be fooled at the smells that first come from the tin. Let your powder breathe. And this Lily Pomatum for Wrinkles, made from a 1772 recipe: And  this Cream of Roses Regency Cold Cream, once a staple in every woman toilette: And this delicious-smelling 1918 Violet Massage Cream from another historical recipe: And this Ancient Insect Balm, all natural and inspired by historical accounts of balms that were used to keep insects off.  And, finally, this 1930's Rose Curling Fluid, which was used to enhance the texture, definition, and suppleness of setting in curls, waves, and making naturally curly or permed hair easier to manage.. but also works well for fine, thin hair to set and for the marcel waves that were popular in the 1930's (and our hearts).  That's all for now...
